How to Make Rosin Gummies:
A Step-by-Step Guide

Cannabis gummies are one of the most popular products on the market. They provide a unique and long lasting experience when compared to smoking marijuana or hemp. It is also a safer consumption method that allows you to avoid any smoking or vaping.

Gummies made with rosin are becoming known as the best quality gummies. Rosin differs from other extracts in that it is made without the use of any solvents. Rosin is considered to be the “cleanest” extract and therefore rosin gummies are the best gummies.

The only problem is that gummies are not the cheapest to buy and consistently enjoy. Making your own gummies at home is a great way to save some dollars. It is also a fun and fulfilling experience to make your very own rosin gummies. In this article we will describe how to make your very own rosin gummies. We will discuss proper dosing and offer a step-by-step recipe guide on how to make rosin gummies. If you are looking for shortcuts, we will also describe how to melt down store-bought gummies and incorporate your own rosin.

Benefits of Using Rosin to Make Gummies

Higher Purity

Rosin gummies are the best gummies because rosin is the best extract. Rosin is considered to have a higher purity than other extracts like shatter and crumble because it is made without the use of solvents like butane.

Better Flavor

Rosin can contain terpenes that might be missing in other extracts. Terpenes are the flavor center of cannabis so if you want a tasty extract, rosin is the answer. This translates into the flavor of your gummies. Your tastebuds will thank you for using rosin in your gummies.

Dosing

Understanding what dose you make your gummies is crucial to an enjoyable experience when consuming rosin gummies. I am sure we all know what can happen when the gummy has too high potency. Here is how you can calculate (or estimate) the potency of your rosin gummies before you learn how to make rosin gummies.

Rosin Potency

The first step to calculating the dose of your rosin gummies is to find the potency of your rosin. This can be found on the packaging if you bought your rosin at a dispensary. If you are unsure of the potency, you can estimate it to be about 60-70% THC. That means that 1 gram of rosin has approximately 600-700mg of THC.

Dose per Gummy

Many gummies on the market do not exceed 10mg of THC per gummy. This is typically a strong enough dose for the average cannabis user to feel significant effects without being overwhelming. If you have a higher tolerance, then maybe a higher dose is better for you.

It is important to note that the higher the dose means more rosin needs to be incorporated into the gummy. This could enhance the cannabis flavor in your gummies.

Dosing Calculation

Determine the total amount of THC in the rosin you will be using to make your gummies. Divide that number by the number of gummies you plan to make. This will give you the amount of milligrams of THC per gummy.

Example 1

You plan to use 1 gram of rosin to make 50 gummies.

The rosin has a potency of 70%. This means that your gram of rosin has 700mg of THC.

700mg divided by 50 gummies is 14mg of THC per gummy.

If you would like gummies with a higher dose, you can either add more rosin or make less gummies with the same amount of rosin.

If you would like gummies with a lower dose, you can either use less rosin or make more gummies with the same amount of rosin.

Example 2

If you want 10mg gummies and you have 1 gram of 70% rosin, then you must make 70 gummies.

700mg / 70 gummies = 10mg / gummy

How to Make Rosin Gummies: Ingredients & Tools

Ingredients

  • Cannabis rosin
  • ½ cup COLD water
  • ¼ cup of light corn syrup
  • 3 ounces of flavored gelatin
  • 2 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • Fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of LIQUID sunflower or soy lecithin (do not use powder)

Tools

  • Silicone gummy mold
  • Liquid measuring cup
  • Table and teaspoon
  • Double boiler or saucepan and heat-safe bowl
  • Saucepan
  • Glass bowl
  • Whisk
  • Candy thermometer
  • Dropper or squirt bottle

Step-By-Step Guide How to Make Rosin Gummies

Step 1: Determine dosage

Determine the target dosage for your gummies. This will determine how much rosin you need to use. See the Dosing section above for a more detailed description.

Step 2: Decarb the rosin

Rosin is mostly made of THCA which is an inactive compound. It is not until THCA is heated up that it converts to Delta-9 THC and will then produce a high. This process is known as decarboxylation (decarbing).

To decarb your rosin, preheat your oven to 220℉. Place your rosin into a small oven-safe dish. Set the dish into the oven and allow it to heat for about 20-30 minutes. This will completely convert the THCA to Delta-9 THC.

Step 3: Prepare gelatin

In a glass mixing bowl, mix ¼ cup of cold water with the 2 tablespoons of unflavored gelatin. Allow this mixture to sit for 10 minutes so the gelatin softens.

In a saucepan, place ¼ cup of cold water, ¼ cup of light corn syrup, and ¼ cup of sugar. Stir constantly and heat on medium until the mixture reaches 240℉. Use your candy thermometer to gauge the temperature.

Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.

Step 4: Combine ingredients

Use your whisk to mix the flavored gelatin into the saucepan. The gelatin should fully dissolve.

Now, add into the unflavored gelatin and lecithin. Whisk until the mixture looks smooth.

If you want a fresh lemon taste, now is the time to add in a squeeze or two of fresh lemon juice. Mix to incorporate.

Step 5: Double-boil rosin

The rosin needs to be heated before adding it into the gummy mixture. Heating the rosin will melt the rosin so it can be incorporated.

To do this, we want indirect heat so we will use a double-boil technique. In your double boiler or a separate saucepan than your gelatin mixture, begin to boil water. Place your rosin into the double boiler or a heat-safe bowl that can sit inside of the saucepan without the water boiling into the bowl. Allow the rosin to heat up inside the bowl until it is fully melted. Do not leave it on the heat for too long.

Once melted, you can mix your rosin into the gelatin mixture. Make sure that the rosin is evenly distributed throughout the gelatin mixture.

Step 6: Pour mixture into gummy mold

Pour the mixture into your gummy molds. It can be helpful to use a dropper or syringe for this step.

Allow the gummies to sit in the mold for around 2 hours until they are firm.

Step 7: Storage

Remove the gummies from the mold and store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They can last for several weeks when properly stored. It is also best practice to label your container so you never have to question the potency of the gummies in there. It is easy to forget how strong they are after a few weeks.

How to Make Melted Rosin Gummies (The Easiest Way to Make Rosin Gummies)

How to Make Rosin Gummies (Melted Method) by Gutenberg’s Dank Pressing Co.

Why Use Melted Gummies

If the thought of making your own gummies from scratch feels daunting, then making melted gummies is for you! Melted gummies are the easiest way to make rosin gummies. The gummy formula is already perfected by the manufacturer. You also have access to a wide variety of flavors to work with. It is as simple as melting the gummies and adding rosin (and some lecithin).

Ingredients & Tools

Ingredients

  • Gummies of your choice (bulk flavor bags come with the flavors already separated)
  • Lecithin
  • Cannabis Rosin

Tools

  • Silicone gummy mold
  • Double boiler or a pot and a heat-safe bowl

Step-By-Step Guide

Step 1: Decarb the rosin

As always, you need to convert THCA into Delta-9 THC by the process of decarboxylation. Place your rosin into a heat-safe dish and place that dish into the oven set at 220℉. Let it warm for 20-30 minutes.

Step 2: Melt the gummies

Use a double boiler to melt your gummies. If you do not have a double boiler, you can fashion one from a saucepan and heat-safe bowl. Heat water in the saucepan, place your gummies in the heat-safe bowl. Place the bowl into the boiling water and make sure to not let any water boil over and in.

Step 3: Add lecithin and rosin

Once the gummies are melted, add in about a single teaspoon of lecithin for every 50 gummies you melt. You can also add in your rosin.

Give this mixture a thorough stir. It should be homogenous (the same throughout) so that dosing is consistent.

Step 4: Pour into molds

Place your gummy molds onto a flat surface and pour the mixture overtop.

Step 5: Let it set

Place your filled gummy molds into the refrigerator for about 12 hours or until the gummies fully set. You may choose to coat your gummies in sugar before packaging or storage. Do not store in heat or direct sunlight.
