Many experienced dabbers will swear by the torch. This is the only way to truly enjoy all that your dabs can offer in terms of taste and the high. Of course electronic dab nails (E-nails) are popular because of their ease of use. Just turn it on, wait for it to heat up, then dab.
Using a torch requires a bit more of a refined touch. You may find yourself asking questions like: “how do I keep my dabs from burning”, “how big of a torch do I need for dabbing”, “can I use a small torch”, “what is are the best torches for dabbing”, and “how do I evenly heat up my dab nail with a torch”. In this article, we will try to answer all your questions and lead you on the right path to finding the best torches for dabbing in 2025.
TLDR: The Blazer Big Shot GT8000 is the best dab torch
How to Use a Torch for Dabbing

-
Fill your torch with butane
To fill your dab torch with butane, find the point where you can insert the nozzle of the butane can. It is usually a small circle on the bottom of the torch. Flip the butane can upside down, insert the nozzle of the butane can into the dab torch, then press down LIGHTLY to transfer the butane from the can to the torch. It should fill up within a few seconds. If you notice liquid butane coming out, the torch is probably already full.
-
Set up your dab rig
Make sure your dab rig has water (if it is a water pipe) and the dab nail and carb cap are ready to go. You can also get your dab ready on your dab tool.
-
Open the torch valve and ignite it
Twist open the torch valve to let the butane start flowing. Then press the plunger to ignite the flow of butane. Use the valve to adjust the size of the flame. It should be glowing blue.
-
Heat up the dab nail
Aim the flame from the torch at the bottom and sides of your dab nail. The inner tip of the flame is the hottest point. Evenly heat up the bottom and sides of the dab nail for around 20 seconds to 1 minute or until it is beginning to glow red.
Now close the valve on the dab torch to stop the flow of butane. DO NOT TOUCH THE TORCH NOZZLE! It is very hot.
-
Cool down
Let the dab nail cool down to a point that is best for dabbing. This is around 400-600℉. You can find the temperature in two ways. Either time the cool down for about 30-90 seconds or use a temperature gauge (like the Dab Rite).
If you are timing the cool down, the size and quality of your dab nail will determine how long you must let it cool. This can take some experimentation. You will know the nail was too hot if your dab tastes burnt and leaves burned residue on the dab nail. You will know the nail was too cold if your dab does not fully vaporize.
-
Dab it
Once the dab nail has reached a proper temperature, put the dab in the nail and place your carb cap on top. Inhale slowly and evenly. Now you’re high!
-
Clean the dab nail
Keeping your dab nail clean is essential for consistently quality dabs. A dirty nail will not hold heat as well as a clean one. To clean your dab nail, use a cotton swab to soak up any leftovers. Be thorough!
What to Look For in a Dab Torch
Flame Size and Control
Big flames heat up your dab nail faster and more efficiently. You don’t need a flamethrower, but a small flame won’t do either. Ideally you can control the flame size with a valve.
Ease of Use
It should be as easy as turning the valve to allow butane to flow then pressing the ignition. Anything harder than that is probably a waste of time.
Safety & Stability
A good torch should have a wide base to prevent it accidentally falling over. It should also not light without a knowledgeable user so that children do not accidentally light it.
Fuel Capacity
Big torches need to be filled up with butane less often. It’s as simple as that.
Best Torches for Dabbing
Blazer Big Shot GT8000 (This is the Best One)

The Blazer Big Shot is the industry standard. It is widely known as one of the best torches for dabbing, hands down. It has an adjustable flame, lights with a simple press of a button, and costs about $90. If you come across the Higher Standard Big Shot, that is a collaboration made by Blazer and it is also excellent.
Newport Zero Torch

This torch can do the job well enough. It has an adjustable flame size, easy ignition, and costs about half as much as the Blazer Big Shot. The downside is the size. It is smaller than the Blazer so you will need to fill it up more often.
Vector Nitro or Triple Jet

These torches are pretty high quality. They have a powerful and adjustable flame which is great for heating up your dab nail. They cost around $60.
Iroda PT-500

These are another great Blazer alternative. They also have an adjustable flame size and ignite easily. We also like the wide base so it is less likely to tip over. They cost around $60.
Propane Torches
DO NOT USE A PROPANE TORCH. These are much less safe than standard butane dab torches. Better safe than sorry!
